Mediation

This is a voluntary and confidential process in which an impartial third party, myself as mediator, prepares the parties and helps them communicate effectively in order to re-establish constructive dialogue. The mediator does not make decisions for the parties; rather, she guides them so they can find their own solutions to a difficult situation or better understand each other and ease tensions.

Restorative Justice

Restorative justice is a voluntary and confidential process that brings together those affected by an offense —alleged victim and alleged perpetrator—to repair the harm caused, calming down the emotions, and foster accountability. It complements the traditional criminal justice system by focusing on human needs, emotions, and dialogue. It can take place within or as an alternative to the criminal justice system.

Within the framework of Dialogue, the restorative justice service takes the form of a meeting between the alleged perpetrator and the alleged victim who wish to talk together, outside the framework of a complaint or criminal proceedings.

Key points to remember

  • Impartiality of the mediator

  • Confidentiality of exchanges

  • Voluntary process

  • The parties decide on the content of the exchanges and make the decisions

  • The mediator does not give legal advice.

  • Empowerment : the parties can regain power to act on the situation they are experiencing.

  • Dialogue's services operate outside the judicial context . Mediation therefore does not take place within the framework of any legal proceedings (civil or criminal).

What Dialogue's services can offer you:

  • a reduction in stress and trauma related to the situation

  • solutions for resolving a conflict or a decision to be made

  • emotional repair

  • material compensation

  • emotional support throughout the process

  • clarification of your needs and the opportunity to express them

  • tools for non-violent communication

  • the opportunity to have a constructive and respectful exchange with the other

  • the opportunity to be heard by the other

  • the opportunity to get answers to your questions

  • the opportunity to express your emotions and the impact of the situation on your life

My approach

My experience in Quebec working with victims of various crimes and their perpetrators, as well as citizens experiencing diverse conflicts (family, neighborhood, intimate relationships, workplace relationships, sexual assault, etc.) has allowed me to define the mediator I am today and the values that guide my work. I define my approach to mediation as relational and humanistic .

This approach prioritizes the relationship and communication between the parties, as well as their emotions and needs. To achieve this, I practice active, empathetic, and non-judgmental listening, placing the parties at the heart of the interaction.

It is important for me to help the parties clarify their expectations and to equip them to express themselves through non-violent communication.
